XL Construction Tops Out New 72,000 SQFT Student Success Center at City College of San Francisco
All-electric, LEED Silver, and net-zero building exemplifies XL’s strength in design-build leadership and sustainable project delivery.
MILPITAS, Calif. (Dec. 14, 2023) – XL Construction (XL), a leading Northern California builder, today celebrated the topping out of the new Student Success Center on the campus of City College of San Francisco (CCSF) in San Francisco, California. XL is the contractor for the two-story, 72,000-square-foot student resource hub, which is expected to open in early 2025.
Working with noted San Francisco-based architecture firm Gensler as a progressive design-build team, the facility will be a prominent campus focal point on CCSF’s Ocean Campus. More than 30 student groups, previously distanced on campus, will be consolidated using an integrated service model, sharing common areas while having their own office space.
“Topping off the Student Success Center gives us a chance to reflect on the exceptional work done to-date by the entire project team to bring about CCSF’s vision for a new state-of-the-art center that serves students in our community,”
said Richard Walker, CEO of XL.
“We are proud to be part of a team that is improving students’ access to much needed support, enriching their experience and enhancing their opportunity for advancement.”
The center’s design connects two angled rectangles using a central double-height thoroughfare, which is the building’s main entrance. This prominent atrium entry, the Welcome Center, will provide direction to important student resources within the structure. In addition to its unique programmatic vision, the building is designed to be all-electric, LEED Silver, and net-zero ready, with a terracotta panel and glass façade.
