XL Construction added to Google’s creative work environments with this 225,000 s.f. two-building renovation and 88,000 s.f. of site improvements. XL created workspace for 1,150 employees, a 15,000 s.f. 350-person café, a 500-person event space, various meeting areas, and a repurposed outdoor courtyard. XL increased space and natural light through 12-foot raised ceilings, 17 new skylights, double-height lightwells, and sunlit feature stairs. XL improved energy efficiency with new mechanical and electrical systems, resulting in a 13% improvement over California energy code requirements. XL also installed one of the first reclaimed water systems in Sunnyvale, and completed seismic upgrades. XL reclaimed an old equipment yard for the focal outdoor court. Site work also included new electric vehicle charging spaces, landscaped berms, raised planters, and stormwater bio swales.
