Mass Timber Construction in the Bay Area on the Rise

The five-story facility planned to house nearly 1,000 employees not only has a LEED Platinum certification goal but is also designed to be all-electric and use a PV system that will power the building and return additional energy to the grid. The project will include a dynamic façade with controlled wood shades that reduce solar heat gain and automatically adjust for worker comfort throughout the day. Altogether, the facility is projected to have 96% fewer carbon emissions than if constructed with steel.

XL Construction has teamed up with Michael Green Architecture and SERA Architects to deliver this groundbreaking facility, which is scheduled for completion in August 2022 – six weeks earlier and for 3.6% less the cost of a steel building of the same size.
